300 Venezuelan migrants who were in Colombia return to their country

(CNN Spanish) -  The first group of 300 Venezuelan migrants housed in a transitional camp on the border with Colombia on Sunday returned to their country on Monday.


According to a statement from the Norte de Santander governorate, this group was with children and in precarious conditions in a sector of the border town of Villa del Rosario.

First, they were transferred to the Tienditas Healthcare Center (CAST) where they were given food, personal hygiene items and shelter in tents.
As explained by the Governor of the North of Santander, Silvano Serrano, “CAST is not a shelter, nor a refuge. It is a transitory station in which the migrants will wait for a maximum of 48 hours the turn to enter their country. In this space, people will have dignified treatment, with basic human and health conditions, given the vulnerable condition in which they find themselves. ”

The return was made by the Simón Bolívar international bridge and was made in accordance with the government measure of the questioned President Nicolás Maduro to allow the entry of 300 Venezuelans on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

In addition to the Norte de Santander governorate, the Colombian government, the police, the Army and international organizations participated in the operation.
Affected by the coronavirus pandemic, many Venezuelans residing in Colombia expressed their desire to return due mainly to their dependence on informal work.
