Police urge citizens not to participate in unauthorized assembly
Police said in a Facebook post that they noticed that someone had applied to hold public meetings and processions on Hong Kong Island this (16th) afternoon. After a risk assessment, the police believed that the high-risk activities involving public gatherings and processions were crowded. In order to maintain public order, public safety and protect the rights and freedoms of others, the police have previously prohibited the relevant public assembly and opposed the relevant public procession.
The police reiterated that unauthorized assembly has the opportunity to violate the "Participation in Unauthorized Assembly" under the "Public Security Ordinance" and can be sentenced to up to 5 years in prison once convicted.
