"Disarm" the police? "A baroque idea that cannot thrive," said Edouard Philippe on Tuesday during the questioning session with the government in the National Assembly.
“We have seen the prominent role of law enforcement once again. Security forces that we all support and which we say would be singularly helpless under current circumstances if they were disarmed, "he said, referring to the tensions that have rocked Dijon over the past four days.

The Prime Minister thus protested against the "unbearable images" of the incidents which had occurred in the Grésilles district between certain inhabitants and members of the Chechen community, before resuming himself: "It is not the images that are unbearable, c 'is the reality that is unbearable,' he insisted.
An indirect response to Jean-Luc Mélenchon
Edouard Philippe answered a question from the deputy (LR) of Seine-et-Marne Valérie Lacroute. He also reacted to recent statements by the leader of the Insoumis deputies, Jean-Luc Mélenchon. The latter had given his vision on what should be the police, during the demonstration against police violence on Saturday 14 June.
"There must be a police almost everywhere but it must be an organized, disciplined police, obedient to the republican state. […] A police force as disarmed as possible so that it inspires respect from citizens, ”he said.
