Marseilles: a survey gives Michèle Rubirola largely in the lead

2020-06-17T23:28:51.217Z

The candidate of Printemps Marseillais, who came first in the first round of municipal elections in front of LR Martine Vassal, would dominate her by seven points in a poll to be published on Wednesday

According to information from Figaro , an Ifop-Fiducial survey for La Provence, Sud Radio and CNews to be published on Wednesday gives Michèle Rubirola at the head of the second round of municipal elections in Marseille with 36%, far ahead of the candidate LR Martine Vassal (29%) and the RN candidate Stéphane Ravier, 22%. This survey, however, if it clearly confirms the surprise dynamic of the environmental candidate of the Printemps Marseillais, is to be taken with caution. It indeed concerns the whole city while the election is played by sectors as in Paris and Lyon, with an indirect election of the mayor in the third round. In addition, the polls published before the first round did not at all predict the arrival in the lead in the first round of Michèle Rubirola. The latter could become the first woman mayor of the second city of France.

At the head of a broad left coalition

The environmental candidate, 63 years old and until recently unknown to the general public, has been carrying out an intensive field campaign for several months. At the head of a very broad left coalition, she focused her social and ecological commitment on proximity with the Marseillais and particularly on the renewal of political practices, all parties combined.

Suspicions of fraud weigh on Martine Vassal

In addition to the dynamics of a “movementist” campaign of the first round, associating the political, associative and union spheres, Michèle Rubirola also benefits from the heavy atmosphere weighing these days on the camp of the Republicans. Serious suspicions of fraud with the proxies indeed tarnish their campaign. So much so that the prosecutor of Marseille, Dominique Laurens opened Friday a preliminary investigation. A search took place at the premises of Martine Vassal, LR president of the city and the department, and heiress of the outgoing mayor, Jean-Claude Gaudin. The investigation continues.
