10,000 euros and a great recognition of the pedagogical work - that means the second place at the German Kita Prize. The success of an alliance of Dorfener child and youth care facilities was announced in a video live stream.

Dorfen - cheers in Dorfen: An alliance around the Dorfener Kinder- und Jugendhaus won second place at the German Kita-Preis 2020 with 10,000 euros. It had been clear for a few months: The Dorfener Association of Child and Youth Care Facilities is one of the winners of the day care center award. Because out of over 1,500 applications, ten finalists were selected in this category, only two of them from Bavaria.

The representatives of the participating institutions were all the more enthusiastic that it was now also enough for one of the four second places. Since the beginning of the year, ten day-care centers and ten initiatives from all over Germany have been in the final of the German day-care center award. They were selected from over 1,500 applications and had to wait a little longer this year: Because of the corona pandemic, the award ceremony could not take place in May.

That is why this year's finalists are particularly looking forward to the jury's verdict, which the Federal Ministry of Family Affairs and the German Children and Youth Foundation, together with other partners, announced in a digital live stream. In Dorfen, those responsible experienced the exciting moment in the auditorium of the central school.

The "Kita of the Year 2020" is in Aurich, Lower Saxony. The first place in this category, endowed with 25,000 euros, goes to the local penguin day care center. The Bamberg initiative “From the Gereuth for the Gereuth” won first place and 25,000 euros in the “Local Alliance for Early Education of the Year” category. The children's and youth center in Dorfen is among the four second places.

“We are seeing just now how important good daycare centers are. They ensure that doctors, supermarket sellers, nurses and police officers can keep the store going. They ensure that our youngest grow up well protected and receive individual support. The first chapters of our country's success stories are written in the daycare centers. The work that is done all over the country is never a matter of course. Because we need good daycare centers. And good daycare centers need us and our tailwind, ”said Federal Minister for Family Affairs Franziska Giffey in her video greeting.

Despite the special circumstances, the handover of the trophies will be a very special moment this year: The Federal Minister of Family Affairs invites all award winners to their ministry in Berlin, where they will receive their trophies in person on October 1.
