All cooperation between the UAE and Israel is a result of sharing interests. And already, Israel is the strong side of the equation

Many media outlets in Israel have boasted to an article by the UAE in Washington on Friday in Yedioth Ahronoth (initiated by former Israeli billionaire and now Democratic activist Haim Saban), as a sign of growing friendship and peace relations between Israel and the Arab Gulf states. But that assessment is out of place.

After all, the purpose of the article was not to introduce a new member to the Israeli public. The purpose of the article was to threaten the Israeli public. And Ottawa did not hide the threat. He openly wrote, "Annexation will turn, for sure and immediately, all Israeli aspirations for improved security, economy and culture with the Arab world and the UAE." So here it is, maybe Othiba is confused. Maybe in the UAE companies are launching threats. But in most places in the world, "normal" relationships don't start - that's how they end.

The question also arises - did the UAE define Hezbollah and Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood "terrorist organizations" as good for Israel? Did they cooperate with Israel against Iran because they felt sorry for the poor Jews and wanted to help us? Did they support Israel against Hamas on a robust cliff as well - out of heartfelt sympathy for the Zionists or because some prince once went out with a kibbutznik on a trip to London and remembered our youthful kindness? of course not.

All cooperation between the UAE and Israel is a result of sharing interests. We started working together because it serves both sides. No one is doing any good to anyone. And already, the strong side of this equation is Israel. Our economy is much stronger than the Gulf States' oil economies. Who does he work for when he threatens Israel while the price of a barrel of oil is $ 37?

Beyond that, it is time for Israel to conduct an internal debate on the pros and cons of normalization with the Arab states. Do we want tourists from the Persian Gulf to wash Jerusalem? Do we lack cultural cooperation with regimes that treat women as their husbands' property?

Prior to the "peace era" Israel and Jordan have maintained fruitful security, civil and economic cooperation for generations. The very existence of these relationships is hidden from view and has kept them safe from topical transformations. The culprits could continue to cooperate even in times of war and intifada, without fear of the heart of the Jordanian public's hatred of the Jewish people. Today, every Muslim riot on the Temple Mount threatens relations between the two countries.

We may be quick to say that our relations with Jordan were compromised by peace, but there are undoubtedly many drawbacks to open relations with countries that do not share common values with Israel.

In his threatening article, Othiba actually presents Israel with a choice: normalizing relations with Gulf states or normalizing relations between Jewish Israeli citizens. After all, what does the Trump plan say? That it is time to normalize relations between Israeli citizens through the abolition of the military administration that runs the lives of Israelis living in communities in Judea and Samaria. As Israel abolished the Golan Heights military administration in 1981 and eliminated the inequality between Golan residents who lived under military government and other citizens who lived under Israeli law, so Trump's vision embodied in the sovereignty program came to normalize the status of half a million Israelis living under the military and civilian administration Elected in Judea and Samaria.

The benefits to the country, if only in terms of the civil rights embodied in the sovereignty program, are far higher than normalizing relations with Sunni states, certainly those that are being threatened by us. There is no reason to be upset about it. Ensuring sovereignty is great, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu must stand firm and exercise it.
