  • USA : Protests by " Black Lives Matter " * after the violent death of George Floyd * by police officer  Derek Chauvin *.
  • In Atlanta, an African-American is again killed by police officers - Rayshard Brooks was allegedly shot after a clash with cops (see first report on June 13).
  • Now the family lawyer has made an urgent request to the public (update from June 15, 9:30 p.m.).
  • US President Donald Trump now wants to implement a police reform (see update from June 16, 9:05 a.m.).

Update of 7:50 p.m .:  The USA does not come to rest: In the city of Albuquerque, a self-proclaimed vigilante attacked protesters on Monday evening (local time) who wanted to overthrow a statue they regarded as a symbol of oppression - one of the protesters was killed by a member of a “militia " shot , police said.

The victim was taken to a hospital after the incident on Monday evening (local time), it said. The local station KRQE reported a 31-year-old had been arrested in connection with the shooting. Gunmen from the "vigilantes" had tried to prevent the statue of the Spanish conquistador Juan de Oñate from falling, as could be seen on television pictures.

The Governor of the State of New Mexico , Michelle Lujan Grisham , condemned the self-proclaimed vigilantes. They were there to threaten demonstrators. The Mayor of Albuquerque, Tim Keller , said on Twitter that the statue was now a threat to public order and would be removed until further action was taken.

USA: Trump enacts police reform - and promises “justice” to relatives of victims of violence

US President Donald Trump , meanwhile, has signed a decree for limited police reform in the face of massive protests against police violence and racism . Trump signed the order on Tuesday at a ceremony in the White House rose garden . Among other things, he announced that police officers should only be allowed to use strangleholds when their lives were in danger.

The decree aims to improve recruitment, training and rules of engagement for police officers. Federal funds for the police authorities are to be linked to the condition that certain standards in these fields are observed. Among other things, an exchange of data is envisaged so that police authorities can no longer employ officers who have been released by another police authority because of serious misconduct.

The opposition Democrats are demanding further reforms and have put forward appropriate proposals in Congress. Among other things, they want to abolish so-called "qualified immunity", which complicates civil complaints by victims of police violence . After weeks of protests against racism , Trump also promised "justice" to relatives of victims of police violence on Tuesday. "Your loved ones will not have died for nothing," Trump said after meeting with relatives.

US police officers kill African Americans: Trump threatens peaceful protests with tough measures

Update of June 16, 12:25 p.m .:  US President Donald Trump is apparently an eyesore for the "Autonomous Zone Capitall Hill" in Seattle. Although official reports from the metropolis in the state of Washington speak of predominantly peaceful protests, Trump continues to threaten the National Guard to smash the protest.

The "Capital Hill Autonomous Zone" demonstrators have  set up in Seattle after George Floyd's violent death in Seattle about a week ago and are calling for systematic change. The Trump-abiding and fairly conservative TV channel Fox News referred to the area as "anarchist zone" full of violence. Trump himself said that he had seen what was going on in Seattle on TV - "These are violent people who take over there", that he had seen the beatings and violence that was going on there. Washington state governor  Jay Inslee barely responded, Trump said with a sweep. Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan apparently doesn't know she is alive and is unresponsive, Trump said in a press statement. Durkan and Inslee are members of the Democratic Party. "If they don't do their job, I'll do the job," Trump threatened.

Media reports currently rate the protest as peaceful. Among other things, the broadcaster CNN reported from the zone. A video post by the Trump-loyal broadcaster Fox-News on Monday contradicts other reports from the broadcaster - as well as the President. In the “Autonomous Zone”, which the demonstrators have now renamed “Capital Hill Organized Protest”, only a handful of demonstrators escalated at most. But the protest is "99.9 percent peaceful," reports the Fox News reporter after three days in the "Autonomous Zone".

USA / Floyd protests in Seattle: Video shows images from the autonomous zone

On Twitter, Trump blames the "radical left" for the protest in Seattle and claims that the movement wants to "take over" the city. In his sweep on Twitter , the US President also criticized the media that would not report on this development. This is done “on purpose” because the reporting has a bad political impact. Trum p also strikes out against Washington State Governor Jay Inslee and Seattle City Mayor Jenny Durkan. You should be ashamed of yourself. The problem could easily be solved. Both are members of the Democratic Party. Meanwhile, Trump has announced a police reform.

Does anyone notice how little the Radical Left takeover of Seattle is being discussed in the Fake News Media. That is very much on purpose because they know how badly this weakness & ineptitude play politically. The Mayor & Governor should be ashamed of themselves. Easily fixed!

Update of June 16, 9:07 a.m .: After the death of George Floyd, the murder of African American Rayshard Brooks in a brutal police operation has fueled protests against racism and police violence in the USA since last weekend . US President Donald Trump has now reacted to this and announced an order for police reform

USA: Trump announces police reform in response to protests

"The overall goal is that we want law and order," Trump emphasized on Monday (local time) in the White House. "And we want that to happen fairly, fairly and securely." What reforms Trump specifically plans, he wanted only at a press conference on Tuesday at 12 p.m. (local time, 6 p.m. Central European time) in the rose garden of the White House on the occasion of the signing announce the disposal.

The president announced "some good solutions". He also added that most police officers are "great people". On Monday evening, the White House said the order included government incentives for police officers to train officials better. “Bad police officers” who were noticed by excessive violence should be able to be screened earlier. In addition, social workers should be used more

US protests: Atlanta Mayor announces police reforms

Update June 15, 22:50:  The  mayor of the city of Atlanta in the US state of Georgia,  Keisha Lance Bottoms , announced after the killing of African American Rayshard Brooks in an arrest police reforms. Police officers  should be "protectors, not warriors," the mayor told journalists on Monday. It enacted regulations to limit the use of force by police officers to the bare minimum. All officials would have to be trained in de-escalation again and again in the future, she explained.

In addition, all police officers would have to intervene in the event of excessive use of force by colleagues and also report them to avoid punishments, said the mayor. There are no measures that Brooks can bring back to his family, but she will continue to work "every day to prevent this from happening again," she said. The changes now ordered are only the "first step" of a reform process. Brooks' death made her "angry and sad," said Lance Bottoms.

Brooks may have only resisted the arrest on Friday because it was his daughter's birthday and he might have been afraid of spending the weekend in prison, the mayor speculated. She knows of similar cases from her own family, said the African American. "It shouldn't have ended that way," she emphasized.

US policeman kills an African American again: Wife speaks up - lawyer with urgent demand

Update of June 15, 10:03 pm: The death of 27-year-old Rayshard Brooks also triggered new protests in the United States . His widow Tomika Miller thanked the demonstrators and supporters. "Words cannot express how thankful I am for everything," she said. However, there is no justice that can bring her husband back for her and her children, Miller sobbed to journalists. She held her two-year-old daughter Memory in her arms. "It will take a long time to heal for me, it will take a long time to heal for our family."

June 15 update, 9:30 p.m .:  After African-American Rayshard Brooks was shot and killed in a police check in Atlanta , family lawyer Chris Stewart demanded that Brooks' case not be downplayed just because he resisted the arrest. "You handcuffed George Floyd and then he was killed. If you're an African American, getting handcuffed doesn't mean being led nicely into the back seat of a police car, ”the lawyer said. Every African-American man in the U.S. has been afraid of police treatment since childhood, another lawyer said.

The 27-year-old had fallen asleep at the wheel of his car while waiting in line at a fast food restaurant. The

The incoming policeman's bodycam captured what happened next  : Brooks was woken up and told to park his car outside the queue. He claimed to have had a drink. The conversation ran in a calm tone - and that for more than 20 minutes, as reported by the US media. Brooks answered no to the question of whether he had a gun and agreed to be scanned. The officer ordered a colleague to do an alcohol test.

The police found that Brooks had been drinking too much to drive and wanted to handcuff the man. Then everything happened very quickly: Brooks wanted to avoid being arrested, the three men fell to the ground. In the conflict, he managed to grab the official's electric shock pistol (taser) and free himself. A short chase followed - past several cars waiting in line at the restaurant. Brooks turned as he ran and activated the taser , after which the officer pulled and fired his service weapon behind him.

The central question in the case is whether the reaction of the police officer was appropriate. "By law, a taser is not a lethal weapon," said Stewart. In the police video, it can be seen that Brooks was polite. Brooks could have just been told to take an Uber home. "That should never have resulted in his death," said Stewart.
