Ickinger has long been concerned with the debate about a 5G transmission tower. The UBI has now received initial answers to an open letter on the subject.

Ickinger has long been concerned with the debate about a 5G transmission tower. The UBI has now received initial answers to an open letter on the subject.

Icking - A few years ago Vodafone announced that it wanted to erect a cell phone tower south of the Ickingen sports field. So far there has been no building application, but the discussion about 5G has been heating people's minds ever since. In February, the Independent Citizens List Icking (UBI) wrote an open letter to get answers to questions from citizens who remained open in the local council, including Prime Minister Markus Söder, Minister of State Hubert Aiwanger, District Administrator Josef Niedermeier and MPs from the Land and Bundestag.

Icking: First feedback on an open letter from the UBI

UBI has now received initial feedback on its letter, Chairman Georg Linsinger informed in a press release. The state parliamentarians Albert Duin (FDP) and Hans Urban (Greens), the Bavarian State Ministry for the Environment and Consumer Protection and Dr. Peter Miehle, specialist for economy, regional development, energy, media and digitalization of free voters. "We look forward to further answers," Linsinger writes.

In their answers, the politicians commented, among other things, on the limit values applicable in Germany, possible dangers and damage caused by 5G, and on the demand to give the municipal land-use planning more space.

5G: Politicians comment on possible dangers

According to the FDP deputy Duin, the current limit values ensure that "according to the current scientific status, no effects on health are to be expected." The Eurasian Greens MP Urban explains: "The claim that Germany has the highest limit values is untrue." According to him, these values are based on recommendations that the World Health Organization (WHO) and other expert bodies have "based on scientific knowledge". The Ministry of the Environment and Consumer Protection agrees with this statement.

Health damage caused by 5G is not confirmed in any of the letters. "Taking into account the extensive study situation, no indications of health risks from mobile phone radiation can be found up to now in compliance with the applicable limit values," writes Urban. "The only clearly proven mechanism of action on the human organism is tissue warming."

Infrastructure of the mobile radio "clear task of the state"

Both Urban and Miehle have firmly rejected the demand to give the municipalities more space in land use planning. For Urban, the infrastructure of mobile radio is a "clear task of the state". He emphasizes that there are already “a multitude of possibilities” for municipalities to influence the choice of location for mobile radio systems.

Last year, the dispute about the new 5G mobile technology in Icking escalated: A citizen who wanted to make a plot of land on the sports field available for a radio mast was threatened massively.
