(CNN Spanish) - Fabricio Queiroz, former adviser to Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, was arrested this Thursday in Sao Paulo in the framework of an operation investigating a possible corruption plot

in the Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro.

As reported by the Public Ministry of that state, the arrest is due to precautionary measures related to the case called "rachadinha". It is suspected that several officials of the Legislative Assembly have transferred part of their salaries to the then state deputy and son of the President of Brazil.

Through his Twitter account, Flavio Bolsonaro assured that he was facing the events of this Thursday with "calm".

The director of the Strategic Police Operations Department (DOPE) of the Civil Police of Sao Paulo, Nico Gonçalves, told CNN Brazil that Queiroz received the police officers with raised hands and did not resist.

“I am not armed, rest assured that there will be no resistance. I will give myself up. Do they have a court order? Then we will comply with the law, "said Queiroz, according to the police chief. CNN is trying to contact his defense.

Several local media reported that in a brief filed in March 2019, Queiroz stated that he had always acted legally and denied having used public resources to benefit himself or third parties.

During the arrest, two cell phones and some documents were also seized. The detainee is expected to be transferred to Rio de Janeiro in the next few hours.
