For his part, Ali Hussein, head of the peasant association in the village of Hammam and the neighboring villages, pointed to the decline in production as a result of the damage to the fruits and by more than 70 percent, indicating that the farmers are asking for their support and compensation for the damage in addition to providing fertilizer and fuel in a timely manner.

With regard to the marketing process, trader Wassim Hallaq explained that the amount of production this season is low and the quantities received are very few and the price is determined by type and currently ranges between 1000 and 1500 pounds per kilo.

In the same context, the Director of Homs Agriculture, Nazih Al-Rifai, explained in a statement to SANA that Homs comes second in the Syrian level with the production of apricots and the cultivated area, where the number of apricot trees is more than 755 thousand trees, including 720 thousand fruitful trees, while the total area cultivated with apricots is about 48 thousand acres They are all irrigated 80 percent of them in the Qusayr region.

Al-Rifai indicated that apricot production reached 11700 tons in the last season, while production estimates fell this season to 9600 tons as a result of the exposure of fruitful apricot trees to some fungal infections, in addition to the impact of bad climatic conditions and the inability of farmers to complete the control and provide service to the tree at appropriate times, which led to The crop was damaged and the recent fruits fell in some varieties, pointing out that the percentage of lost pregnancy did not exceed 40 percent as a result of the presence of overlapping and mixing in the varieties within the same orchard.

In turn, the head of the Qusair Agriculture Department, Engineer Rasem Al-Omar, indicated that there are 12 varieties of apricots in Homs countryside, and the selling price is determined according to supply and demand, indicating that the damage to the apricot trees varies from one region to another.

On compensation for damage to the tree, Mowaffak Zakaria, head of the Marketing Office of the Homs Agricultural Union, stressed that the peasants did not submit requests to the union for the existence of damage, indicating that there are specialized committees that detect damage to agricultural crops in terms of the size of the damage and distribute it during a specific period according to certain conditions to be evaluated And submit it to the relevant authorities.
