Military success in Libya
Since the fall of Gaddafi in 2011, the Libyan imbroglio has continued to worsen. Last year, we wondered when General Haftar - supported by Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, Russia and France - was going to take Tripoli and oust the government of national unity led by Fayez al- Sarraj, supported by the Muslim Brotherhood.
In this month of June 2020, the contrast is striking: Haftar lost all his conquests during a counter-offensive by government troops. The changeover is the work of Recep Tayyip Erdogan. By putting all his weight behind Fayez al-Sarraj and providing him with officers, weapons and thousands of Syrian fighters, the Turkish president reversed the situation and put himself in a position to decide the future of this state.
