The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress recently met and reviewed the "National Security Law of the Minato City." 86 groups including Amnesty International issued an open letter a few days ago, asking the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress to abandon its plan to introduce national security legislation in Hong Kong. The Amnesty International Hong Kong Branch and the Stakeholders' Association today (19th) went to the Western Central Liaison Office to protest against the implementation of the Hong Kong version of the National Security Law. They chanted slogans and read out a statement, criticizing the national security law for "destructive" violations of human rights, and submitted a petition. However, the Liaison Office did not send a representative to answer the letter. They posted the letter at the door and left.

The Amnesty International Hong Kong Branch earlier collected 73,000 joint signatures globally, and also received 11,000 joint signatures in Hong Kong, opposing the central government’s implementation of the National Security Law on Hong Kong. They worry that there is no human rights law that can restrict national security laws and bring about "destructive" violations of human rights. They condemn national security laws as a means of suppressing people; Amnesty International will go to the Chinese embassy around the world to protest.

The police issued a warning

Meng Zhaoda, director general of the Workers' Union, criticized the National Security Law for not consulting the people of Hong Kong. Meng Zhaoda mentioned that the pro-democracy activist Li Wangyang set up a trade union in the Mainland in 1989. He was charged with counter-revolutionary propaganda and incitement and was imprisoned for more than 10 years. He was subsequently sentenced to subversion of the state power.
