Planning to go to the sea? Along the coast of the country are jellyfish of the migratory species close to the coast and up to hundreds of meters from the shoreline. In addition, large quantities of other (combative) gelatinous creatures are found in our area, but these are non-searing creatures.
Dr. Hadas Lubinevsky of the Institute for Days and Lakes - Haifa notes that "at present it seems that it is a relatively small swarm, though it is still early and July is still ahead of us."
After the bathing season opened late because of the corona virus, now the swarms of jellyfish threaten to interfere with bathers' pleasure. It is estimated that this is their regular annual presence in our region, and is expected to continue during the hot summer months: June, July and August.
The "migratory wire" is the most common on the coast of Israel. It belongs to the shed jellyfish department and originates in the Indian Ocean. Its prominent identification mark is a kind of many threads hanging from its body in the arms area. Known as an invader of the Mediterranean via the Suez Canal, it is now considered a local species in the Mediterranean.
