The Chinese Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Geneva issued a statement on June 19 criticizing the High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet. China has expressed strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations, and has made solemn representations to Bachelet and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.

The delegation stated that Hong Kong affairs are purely China's internal affairs. The Chinese government's determination to safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests is unswerving, its determination to implement the "one country, two systems" policy is unswerving, and its determination to oppose any external forces to interfere in Hong Kong affairs is unswerving. China urges OHCHR to abide by the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, respect and support China’s efforts to maintain national security in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in accordance with law, and not interfere in Hong Kong affairs and China’s internal affairs in any way.

Bachelet issued a statement on the 19th stating that the "Hong Kong version of the National Security Law" formulated by China against Hong Kong must fully abide by China's human rights obligations and international treaties that guarantee civil and political freedom. She said the office will maintain contact with China and continue to monitor the situation closely.
