An expertise of the National Gendarmerie determined with absolute certainty that an officer of the Misiones Police used his regulatory weapon to execute a teenager on a dark dirt street in the town of Santa Ana. The crime occurred on the night of August 24 last year and now the result of the expert opinion left a non-commissioned officer assistant just one step away from a life sentence.

The case shocked the entire country when the details of the event were known. It is that Deibid Vergara, 32 , forced the boy to kneel down and then shot him in the head from a very short distance. A few meters away, from a police car, three other policemen from the Santa Ana Police Station became silent witnesses to the event. Before the Justice they assured that they did not denounce the homicide because Vergara threatened them with death and told them that they would all end up in jail.

Víctor Márquez Dos Santos was 16 years old , he studied and in his spare time he liked to rap. Perhaps his short life charged with deprivation had awakened solidarity in him. On the night that a lead smashed his head, he went to meet his friends at the evangelical church he attended because the next day they were going to cook a locro. They wanted to raise money to have a children's day party.

The police patrol surprised him next to the School of Commerce, where he was in his second year. Vergara was the one who ordered the driver to stop the patrol car. Everyone believed he was only going to identify the boy, but the officer drew his gun, aimed it at him and forced him to kneel. When he was less than a meter away, he pulled the trigger and the lead of his regulation pistol destroyed Victor's skull, which lay in a pool of blood.

Víctor Márquez Dos Santos (16), the teenager killed in Misiones. His father, Feliberto (66), died of a heart attack after the funeral.

The police did not even stop to pick up the served sheath of his weapon. Once inside the patrol car, he warned the non-commissioned officers not to tell anything about what had happened. At the police station, Vergara was in charge of modifying the logbook to delete the record of the departure he had made with the patrolman.

Several of the now-accused police officers were at the teenager's wake and assured the family that they would clarify the crime. And it is believed that it was the officer who launched the hypothesis of a homicide linked to the world of drug trafficking.

The discovery of the scabbard served at the scene of the murder caused the Justice to put the magnifying glass on the policemen. A non-commissioned officer could not bear the pressure and revealed what had happened. She did not hesitate to blame Deibid Vergara, a policeman with just three years of service, and a not very clean sheet.

The judge in the case ordered the kidnapping of the regulatory weapons for an expert opinion. The comparison was carried out by Criminalística of the Misiones Police and established that the striations of the lead corresponded to those left by the barrel of Vergara's pistol; and the same happened with the imprint of the striker on the shorts.

Given the possibility that the expertise would be branded as partial, the new judge in the case asked that a new one be made and entrusted the task to the Gendarmerie. The results were identical.

Vergara is processed and detained in a penal unit for the crime of qualified homicide; while the other three members of the patrol face the accusation of cover-up and will go to trial in freedom released. It is almost a fact that no one will ever wear the police uniform again.

Until now, the officer opted for silence and in Santa Ana, Victor's family still does not know why he was killed. Almost a year after the fact, the family tries to overcome a double pain. It is that on the day of the teenager's funeral, his father decompensated and a few hours later he passed away.
