More than 2 million pesos that were hidden in trucks were kidnapped in the last hours in operations carried out in the provinces of Corrientes and Chaco, the Argentine National Gendarmerie reported on Friday.

In this way, more than 31 million pesos have been seized by the aforementioned security force in different procedures carried out since last week in the northeastern region of Argentina.

One of the operations carried out in the last hours was carried out by members of Squadron 7 "Paso de los Libres" who were deployed on kilometer 536 of national route 14, in the access to the Corrientes town of Tapebicua.

In these circumstances, the gendarmes intercepted the march of a cargo transport with a semi-trailer, which was traveling from Misiones to Entre Ríos, and upon carrying out the corresponding control they found a total of 1,588,096 pesos.

The Federal Court of Paso de Los Libres intervened in the case, which ordered the kidnapping of the money and the initiation of a case against the truck driver for violation of the Foreign Exchange Regime.

For its part, the second procedure was carried out in the province of Chaco, when agents from Squadron 1 "Roque Sáenz Peña" who were located at kilometer 175 of national route 16 stopped a Mercedes Benz truck to carry out a routine procedure.

The vehicle transported packages of pine and eucalyptus from Corrientes to the province of Jujuy.

When requesting the corresponding documentation from the driver, the uniformed officers noticed that he was nervous , so they proceeded to seize the vehicle and, under the bed in the driver's cabin, they found a burlap bag, which in turn contained another but green nylon type.

Then the gendarmes opened the bag and found a rain pilot, which involved 700,000 pesos .

As a result, the Federal Prosecutor's Office of Roque Sáenz Peña ordered the kidnapping of the money and the opening of a case to the driver for the crime of money laundering.

The seizures of money had special relevance this week and in the same region of the country, since in the province of Santiago del Estero some 29 million pesos transported in buses and trucks were seized in the last 9 days.

The Santiago prosecutor Pedro Simón, who is investigating the kidnapping of money, told the Todo Noticias channel yesterday that he believes he was destined to pay for clothes bought online in Buenos Aires by people who used to be part of shopping tours and who now cannot travel due to isolation due the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, the judge in the case, Guillermo Molinari, assured Télam that " no hypothesis is ruled out, " including "money laundering, drug trafficking, illegal purchase of clothing or black money from companies."
