Horror in Canada: Local police opened an investigation on Sunday after 500 puppies of the "French Bulldog" breed were found in the baggage compartment of a passenger plane arriving in Ukraine.
Thirty-eight of the kittens were found lifeless and many others were found to be in severe condition, suffering from dehydration, loss of body heat and unconsciousness. The puppies were found at Pearson International Airport in the city of Toronto, the country's largest airport.
The veterinary agency in the state reported that the puppies had been found as early as last week and that only today the police officially launched the investigation. A trainer who was allowed to visit the place told the Canadian CBC network that "it is a horror, a real scene from a horror movie. It was a nightmare."
Ukrainian airline "Yukreinen International Airways" said on its Facebook page that it regretted "the loss of tragic animal life on our flight" and announced that it would cooperate with local authorities in the investigation.
Don't buy a dog - let's adopt a friend of four
Professor Scott Weiss, a researcher at the University of Guelph in Canada, told the local news network that dog trafficking is a very profitable business in the country. "Most shoppers believe the dog they buy is grown in Canada, but we really have no idea how many dogs come into the country each year and where they come from," said the expert, adding that the organized crime has a hand in dog trafficking.
"We are talking about 500 French Bulldog breed dogs, they are sold for between $ 3,000 and $ 4,000 in the domestic dog market. Just do the bill," says the expert.
