(CNN Spanish) -  A few hours after holding a meeting with authorities of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal, the president of the transitional government of Bolivia, Jeanine Áñez, promulgated this Sunday the law to call presidential elections for September 6, but He warned the candidates Carlos Mesa of the Citizen Community, Luis Arce of the Movement to Socialism and former President Evo Morales, that they should bear the consequences of the pressure exerted to carry out the elections in the midst of a pandemic.

The president explained "I have never had an interest in extending my tenure and I know perfectly well that one of the tasks that I was entrusted with upon arriving at this post was to call presidential elections to overcome the crisis of democracy that Evo Morales generated and his electoral fraud, in this way I make it clear that the only reason why I accepted to speak of postponement was to avoid an election in full quarantine, in other words, it was to avoid risks to people's health. ”

Áñez also said that the government will help to make an orderly election with the least risk of contagion, and warned the candidates that "on this issue of risk, I want to ask Mr. Evo Morales, Mr. Luis Arce Catacora and Mr. Carlos Mesa, that they courageously assume the responsibility they have by having insistently demanded that we make elections in the midst of a pandemic. ”

Earlier, the Minister of Health, Eidy Roca, stated that the highest peak of coronavirus infections, which can reach 130,000 cases, will be registered just in September, according to government projections on the matter.

The head of Health said: "Currently, we have a projection that we will be with the highest peak around the first week of September, it may be a little earlier or a little later," he said.
