The Legislative Council passed the Appropriation Bill 2020 on May 14. The measures will benefit about 760,000 HA tenants. This measure does not apply to tenants who have to pay extra rent.

May apply to postpone the issuance of eviction notice

A spokesman for the HA said: "The government will pay the rent for July 2020 for HA tenants and temporary rent permit holders who pay general rent and are granted rent reductions under the rental assistance scheme. A notice will be sent out to all tenants and temporary permit holders to explain the arrangements."

In addition, due to the impact of the 2019 coronavirus epidemic, if tenants have short-term financial difficulties and fail to pay rent in time, they can apply to the HA to postpone the eviction notice. If the application is approved, the HA will this year From May to October, the relevant notices will be postponed to these tenants.
