The volcanoes of Fuego and Pacaya, in southern Guatemala, erupted and were placed under surveillance on Tuesday, announced the Guatemalan civil protection. Explosions and rumblings occur in the bowels of the two volcanoes, which emit lava, found the specialists of the Institute of Vulcanology, said the press spokesman for the National Coordination for the reduction of disasters ( Conred), David de Leon.

For the moment, there are no preventive evacuations of potentially threatened populations, said the spokesman. The Fuego volcano, which rises to 3,763 meters and located 35 km southwest of the capital, recorded in the night from Monday to Tuesday " an explosive activity (...) audible " in its surroundings, which made vibrate the windows and sheet metal roofs of houses.
As for the Pacaya (2552 meters above sea level and located 20 km south of Guatemala City), it has emitted in recent days significant lava flows accompanied by explosions, said David De Leon.
An eruption of the Fuego volcano caused one of the worst disasters in Guatemala in June 2018: a fiery cloud descending on the flanks of the volcano had killed 202 villagers and 229 others were missing. The latest Pacaya eruption on May 27 and 28 killed a television reporter hit by poison gas during a report. Guatemala has another active volcano, the Santiaguito (west), but its activity is currently considered normal by specialists.
