Cultivation of the tobacco crop is widespread in the Al-Ghab area of Hama countryside, due to the availability of requirements and conditions for its cultivation in the region, in addition to that it is a materially feasible crop.

Tobacco farmers, in statements to a SANA reporter, called for raising the price of receiving the crop to cover its production costs, which have increased significantly during the current season compared to previous seasons, stressing that this will be an incentive for them to move forward in growing tobacco and continue its production, especially as it has become a strategic crop and source of income for thousands of families in an area Al-Ghab and some other areas in Hama Governorate.

The farmer Hassan Nimra from the village of Tal Skien considered that the increase in the price of the tobacco crop is an urgent need to cover the high costs of his production of fuel, fertilizers, a working hand, and others. From farmers about his cultivation, calling on the concerned authorities to raise its price and reduce the disparity between the degrees and varieties of tobacco, which he considered currently unfair to the producers, as the price of a kilogram of the excellent degree is currently 1800 Syrian pounds, while the price of good tobacco is 1200 pounds, while the average tobacco price is 500 pounds.

Engineer Ayman Qarya Falah, Director of Agriculture and Scientific Research at the General Tobacco Corporation, and in response to the demands of farmers and producers to increase the prices of the crop, announced the formation of a committee that includes representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Federation of Peasants and other relevant authorities whose task is to study the cost of producing one kilogram of the crop according to the current prices and conditions indicating that the committee It will take into account the costs of production requirements and the totality of the current data in a way that benefits farmers and ensures the continuity of this agriculture and its production, especially during the current conditions and will decide the matter before the coming season.
