"State negrophobia": the statue of Colbert tagged in front of the National Assembly

The statue of the former minister of Louis XIV was tagged this Tuesday in Paris. The author was arrested.


The statue of Colbert, located in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, near the National Assembly, was tagged on Tuesday, said a police source in Le Figaro . The words “State neophobobia” were inscribed on the base of the book in red, which was itself coated with paint. The perpetrator was arrested, said the same source.

The scene was filmed live by the controversial Facebook Anti-Negrophobia Brigade. Colbert advocated "the murder of blacks, the rape of blacks" , declared to the police the author of the tags. Before adding: "This man is the apology for negrophobia".

The statue with the effigy of Colbert aroused tensions for many years in the anti-colonial spheres. A call to unbolt the statue was launched during a demonstration in early June by the Black Defense League.

National historic figure, Jean-Baptiste Colbert, Minister of Louis XIV is also at the initiative in 1685 of the Black Code, which legislated slavery in the French colonies.
