At first instance, Anne Diana Clain was given nine years in prison for trying to reach Syria with husband and children.

She is the older sister of Fabien and Jean-Michel Clain, those who were the "French voices of the Islamic State". They are now presumed dead; she is still alive, but behind bars. And the prosecution intends to leave it there for several more years. This Tuesday, June 30, the Advocate General claimed a sentence of ten years in prison against Anne Diana Clain, tried by the Paris Court of Appeal for "association of terrorist criminals".

In August 2015, Anne Diana Clain had left France with her religious husband Mohammed Mongi Amri and her four children. After crossing Monaco, Italy and Greece, the family was turned back to the Turkish border. After having waited several months in Bulgaria, the small group tried again and managed to enter Turkey before being arrested on July 1, 2016 near the Syrian border. On September 20, Anne Diana Clain, Mohamed Mongi Amri and the four children were deported to France.

Different versions

The couple's first trial took place on November 19 and 20, 2019. Each of the two defendants presented their version of the facts: Anne Diana Clain assumed that they wanted to settle permanently in Syria, but pleaded "naivety" ; Mohamed Mongi Amri assured that the family's stay in Syria was only temporary. The prosecution requested ten years in prison against the spouses. The court finally condemned the native of Reunion to nine years in prison and the Tunisian to ten years in prison as well as a ban on French territory.
