The containment highlighted the need to relocate certain products to reduce the country's dependence on imports. 3D printing shows that the challenge can be met. Sculpteo, a French start-up which was acquired by BASF at the end of 2019, proves this.
Sculpteo has invested two million euros in the acquisition of new 3D printing machines, using the technique known as "laser sintering". The machines come from the United States, China, but also from the French Prodways (subsidiary of the Gorgé group), which is the only tricolor industrialist positioned in this field. The Sculpteo factory in Villejuif (in the Paris suburbs) now employs 50 people. The area devoted to 3D printing has doubled from 800 to 1600 m² in one year. As a sign of the importance of this technology in the current context, the company announces that it has recorded " a strong acceleration in its orders since June 1, 2020 ".
