An unconventional question in the shadow of the Corona epidemic has reached the door of Rabbi Yosef Zvi Rimon. Recently, the rabbi was asked to clarify whether, during the Sabbath, it is permissible to fasten the metal strip in the face masks - without fear of prohibited work during the holy day.

"Many disposable masks have a metal strip that they fasten to the nose," reads a question addressed to Rabbi Rimon. "This tightening is especially needed for those who wear glasses to avoid steam. Is a new mask allowed to tighten the metal bar on Saturday? Isn't this a tool? And a used mask can also be a problem, because I know it is not allowed to straighten glasses on a Saturday or fork Does this ban also exist in tightening the metal bar? "

At the beginning of his response, the rabbi - who heads the Sulaim Association and serves as the rabbi of the Lev Academic Center and the Alon Shvut South Synagogue - said that "this question must be discussed on the part of the builder and the hammer."

Later, the rabbi gave a detailed answer to the surprising question. "Regarding the construction work, the Gemara brings controversy between Beit Shamai and Beit Hillel, whether there is a constructive prohibition on tools, with the opinion of Beit Hillel that there is no constructive prohibition on tools. Most of the arbiters write that if it is a complete building or a tool making from the beginning, it is not a tool building but a tool building. Says making tools, so everyone should not know this, and so the table is settled.

"Regarding the 'hammer blow', the Gemara says that on a good day, the" cutted skewer "(which was not curved) is not even allowed to be repaired, and so it stopped at an edited table. That is to say, if the skewer has curved so much that it cannot be used - there is a Torah prohibition in its repair. It is forbidden to use it - because of this, the defender Avraham ruled that a needle on a curved needle should not be straightened, and for this reason it is also not allowed to align a handle of glasses, etc. Therefore, it was appropriate to say that the metal strip of the mask on the nose should not be tightened because of a hammering craft. "As we wrote about the builder's work, here too, this is a very minor, non-enduring fix and in any case does not really have a correction."

The rabbi clarified that "despite the above, there is no beaver or hammer problem here. There are some reasons why the mask should not be repaired if its metal strip has curved. First, the mask is intended to be disposable and only for a few hours. Second, the metal strip Its designed to be loose, and even after its arrangement it loosens up again, so there is no tool-repair situation. Third, it does not last long and therefore it is not considered to be a new thing. In light of this, the metal strip in the mask can be repaired if it curves. And there's no problem doing so on Saturday. "

In his remarks, Rabbi Lapona wrote: "We have been allowed to go out of the houses and see people again, and we hope the situation will improve and improve, but it is important to put on the mask. We will pray that the plague will be stopped soon, the mask will be removed, and we will also be able to internally remove any masks that are incorrect, even towards humans, and certainly God. "
