At least 53,069 new infections in the coronavirus were registered in the United States in 24 hours, according to the counting Thursday at 8:30 pm local from Johns Hopkins University, a record level since the beginning of the pandemic, on the eve of the long week weekend of national holiday.

This brings the total number of cases detected in the country to more than 2.7 million. 649 people have died from Covid-19 on American soil in the last 24 hours, 128,677 since the start of the global health crisis.
