Forty human rights and press freedom organizations have called on the British government to "immediately" release the founder of WikiLeaks, Julian Assange, and to delay his deportation to the United States of America.
In a letter today addressed to British Minister of Justice Robert Buckland, the organizations also told AFP that the "persecution" of Assange, who is arrested in Britain, "contributes to the deterioration of press freedom in the United Kingdom" and tarnishes its image on the international scene.
Last year, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on torture, Nils Miller, revealed that Asanj had been subjected to psychological torture in prison in Britain, again calling for him not to be extradited to Washington.
