The painters of Montmartre
For auctioneer Stéphane Aubert, “ Michou's collection reveals an unknown aspect. The works acquired in contact with his painter friends celebrate this Montmartrois village which he loved Parisian life so much and more broadly ”.
The Trumpeters , oil on canvas by Gen Paul, is estimated between 15,000 and 20,000 euros. A set of paintings by Bernard Lorjou also make up this collection, with the same estimate.
Trinkets signed Daum, Lalique and Baccarat, or a set of blue tinted works signed and dedicated by the glassmaker Jean-Claude Novarro will also be offered to the highest bidder, as will the blue panama from Michou estimated at 100 to 150 euros. Its numerous pairs of glasses, completing its inimitable look, are however absent from the catalog.
An apartment that sees the Sacred Heart
In a second step, the Montmartre apartment with breathtaking views of the Sacré-Coeur and which has seen many famous people parade for more than half a century, will also be put on sale.
As for the cabaret, Michou's niece intends to continue the adventure as its founder wanted. In his memoirs published in 2017, Michou wanted everything to stop after him, but he reconsidered his decision in a letter addressed to his “Michettes”, his transformist artists, a few months before his death.
"We would like to reopen as soon as possible. We are waiting for the instructions because we have to go carefully with this pandemic ... ” , dares to confide the new owner of Chez Michou. But damn it can not lie, she concluded her remarks on a note of optimism: "But we are fortunate to have an essentially French clientele, which is not the case with other Parisian cabarets".
