PAHO warns that hundreds of thousands more people could die in Latin America and the Caribbean from covid-19

More than 121,000 people have died from coronaviruses in Latin America and the Caribbean so far. By October 1, that number could increase by more than 300,000.
That was the headline at this week's press conference with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), which cited models from the University of Washington that predict a total of more than 438,000 deaths across the region by the end of September. That means that, on average, about 3,500 people could die from the virus every day from now until then.
