Marcos Rojo returned to Argentina for his love for Students and for his ambition to be close to the orbit of Lionel Scaloni, coach of the National Team. His sights were set on the Copa América 2020, which will finally be played in 2021. However, he only played one match at Pincha and must now return to Manchester United. But before that, he received an unexpected call: that of Juan Román Riquelme, Boca's second vice president.
"My idea was to stay in Argentina, because I want to continue in Estudiantes. But something happened: they called me from Boca to see what I had in mind to do and at first it moved me," said the defender on Fox Sports.
"Roman called me. He was re excited, because he is an idol. My old man is a fan of Boca. I grew up seeing him. We talked, I told him about the situation and we agreed to talk," he confessed.
In any case, the 30-year-old center and winger ended up discarding the option that the idol gave him. "Then I thought about it and told him that it was not the time to make a move to Boca," he revealed.
Rojo returned to Estudiantes with the idea of gaining continuity and remaining in force in the Scaloni Selection.
And he elaborated: "The people of Estudiantes received me as an idol and opened the doors for me. I cannot go to Boca now having played a single game. I would not speak well of myself."
Despite having rejected the proposal made by the vice president of Boca, the world runner-up with the National Team did not close the doors for the future.
"In the future you never know. Today I want to play in Estudiantes and if I continue, it will be here. But later I don't know. I don't want to say: 'No, no, no' and then do it, because it would be bad," argued the footballer who in the next few days must return to England to join the Ole Solskjaer squad.
Roman's wish, at least for now, will not come true. But without a doubt, his number was scheduled on the cell phone.
