Nine people suspected of being involved in drug trafficking in a district of Villeurbanne (Rhône) were arrested this week and 125,000 euros in cash were seized, police said in a statement on Saturday.

The suspects, " involved in various degrees in this trafficking ", were arrested Monday and Tuesday in the Tonkin district after three months of investigation into two points of deal.
" Between twenty and thirty transactions were noted per hour on each point of deal, " said the police, who conducted the operation after arresting buyers in flagrante delicto Sunday, June 28. During the searches, the investigators seized 125,520 euros in cash, 2,422 grams of cannabis resin, 1,460 grams of herb and 105 grams of cocaine. A bulletproof vest and twenty-five 12-gauge cartridges were also discovered.

Five of the nine suspects were presented Friday to the Lyon prosecution for the opening of a judicial investigation. During the investigation, which began in April, two apartments used for storing drugs and money were found and " the main person controlling the organization " of the traffic was identified. The Tonkin district was the subject of several incidents of gun violence in April and June.
