Israel will file a formal protest with the state for approval of organizations declaring that this is their purpose

Israel formally supported the Belgian government to fund organizations whose activities are intended to "weaken pro-Israeli voices."

The Israeli ambassador to Belgium and Luxembourg, Emmanuel Nachshon, will send an official letter of complaint to the Belgian government following the publication of documents, which reveal that the Belgian authorities financially support the activities of pro-Palestinian organizations with the stated aim of "weakening the influence of pro-Israeli voices". 

This phrase appears in an official document of the Belgian government detailing the aid program for foreign civil organizations for 2017-2021. The document was drafted by civilian organizations, most of which deal with Israel and the Palestinian Authority, and are active in the field of delegitimization to Israel. The document was subsequently approved by the Belgian government.

Ambassador Nachshon told Israel Today: "It's a scandal. Belgium public funds may not be used to harm Israel. The argument that the government does not interfere with funding applications from NGOs is not serious. I intend to contact the Foreign Minister and the Minister of Development of Belgium for explanations. It is not possible for organizations whose sole purpose is to hurt Israel to continue to enjoy Belgian funding. "
