An aircraft that was allegedly used for illegal activities was found in flames this Sunday on a highway in the western state of Quintana Roo, Mexico.

(CNN Spanish) - An aircraft that was allegedly used for illegal activities was found in flames this Sunday on a highway in the western state of Quintana Roo, Mexico.

The ship was found in a section between Chunhuhub and José María Morelos, the state's public security secretary Alberto Capella reported on Twitter.

Capella did not give details about the incident, nor about the crew or the type of "illegal activities" in which he said the aircraft had been used.

The official published two videos where the destroyed plane is seen on the road, with a part on fire and a column of smoke observed from a distance.

The Quintana Roo Security Secretariat did not answer this Sunday the additional requests for information sent by CNN.

Capella assured that federal authorities participate in the investigation.
