The health authorities of the Swiss canton of Jura placed 360 pupils and their 50 teachers “in quarantine” after the discovery of several cases of Covid-19. The secondary schools of the small municipalities of Breuleux (around 1600 inhabitants) and Haute-Sorne (around 7000 inhabitants), located not far from the French border in north-west Switzerland, closed last week. In the first school, three teachers and one student tested positive for the coronavirus, while four cases were found in Haute-Sorne.

"The cantonal doctor made the decision this Sunday, with regard to the instructions of the Federal Office of Public Health, to place all teachers and students in quarantine," said the statement from the cantonal authorities. "In total, this represents 50 teachers and 360 students forced to stay at home for 10 days since the last contact with an infected person , " said the authorities, adding that this isolation "will last until July 10 included for school. Breuleux secondary school and up to and including 11 ” for the Haute-Sorne school.

The number of cases of Covid-19 contamination has increased slightly over the past week in the Swiss Confederation, exceeding the 100 mark per day for several days in a row when the contamination had stabilized well below of this course for several weeks. The federal authorities have therefore decided on new measures to ensure the health protection of the population, in particular the wearing of the compulsory mask in public transport, which comes into force on Monday.

In total, Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein have recorded 32,268 confirmed cases (+70 between Saturday and Sunday) since the start of the crisis for 1,686 deaths. No new deaths were announced during the weekend, according to figures from the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH).
