Books written by opponents of the Beijing regime and democracy activists have been removed from the shelves of public libraries across Hong Kong, as revealed by the radio station "voice of america", citing local reports.

Books by dozens of social and intellectual activists, including pro-Democratic legislator Tanya Chan and social activist Joshua Wong, are no longer available in local library catalogs.

Although Beijing insists that the law is intended to prevent international terrorism and crime, with the autonomy of six million people, business owners have already begun to pull out signs of support for the popular protest that plagued the place this past year, fearful of ongoing investigation and imprisonment by the Beijing authorities.

Social activist Joshua Wong, whose book has been removed from the libraries, told the US radio station: "It is part of Beijing's white terrorist apparatus. National Security Act is basically a way of criminalizing freedom of speech."

The Hong Kong City Department of Culture and Recreation has reported to the AFP that all books removed from the shelves have been temporarily removed to see if they violate the new legislation.
