Rocket Mortage Classic: Bryson DeChambeau wins his showdown against Matthew Wolff

2020-07-06T23:58:12.425Z

The new Bryson DeChambeau, with his physique as a mover since the deconfinement, returned to success by winning the Rocket Mortage Classic after eighteen months of famine. Nice second place three shots to Matthew Wolff who bowed his head high.

Bryson DeChambeau (-23) had impressed everyone with his ten kilos of extra muscle on the recovery. This week again, his power made the difference to win the Rocket Mortage Classic. After having lifted cast iron almost compulsively for several months, DeChambeau finally lifted a trophy after eighteen months of waiting on the PGA Tour (he also won in Dubai on the European Tour in January 2019). In the wake of Dustin Johnson's victory last week (fourteen months after his last success), the men of the world top 10 are back in shape to justify their rank! Everything was not perfect, like this harmless refocusing move on 14 which pitifully ended its run in the water. But with a driving average of 320 meters this week, including a 335-meter missile at the 72nd hole to finish with panache, nobody could go looking for DeChambeau, despite only six fairways hit on Sunday ... for the best map of the day (65)! This is the sixth victory in three years for the 26-year-old golfer who has shown impressive consistency (only man with four cards under 68 this week).

Matthew Wolff too imprecise Sunday

His young compatriot Matthew Wolff had nevertheless set the bar very high by settling in the lead with three strokes ahead after 54 holes. But with a score of +3 after ten holes on Sunday, the 21-year-old Californian in the atypical swing had said goodbye to his chances since DeChambeau had played -5 at the same time to count five strokes ahead of the lead. Returning to a shot from DeChambeau after a birdie at 15 (the third in four holes), Wolff left the specter of an incredible comeback. But with his final three birdies, DeChambeau kept Wollf at bay to win by three strokes. Co-leader after eighteen holes, Kevin Kisner completes the podium. The English Danny Willett and Tyrrell Hatton finished in a very beautiful fourth place. Serious things will resume in two weeks with the Memorial Tournament (which will also mark the return of the French number one Victor Perez), but no doubt, the big arms of the American circuit are already back in shape!
