(CNN Spanish) - The Colombian highway police informed CNN that a truck carrying fuel from Barranquilla to Santa Marta (in the north of the country) had an accident on Monday. Several villagers approached to steal gasoline and at that moment the vehicle exploded.
In a message published on his Facebook account, the mayor of Pueblo Viejo, Fabián Obispo Borja, reported that seven people died and another 49 have burn injuries. He stated that he is on his way to the city of Santa Marta to expedite the transfer of the wounded who require medical attention, while sending his condolences to the victims' families.
