(CNN) –– The white woman who called the police in Central Park for a black man who was watching will be prosecuted, the Manhattan district attorney reported Monday.
Amy Cooper, who was taped while accusing a black man of threatening her, faces one count of falsely reporting a third-degree incident, according to the prosecutor.

“At this time I would like to encourage anyone who has been the target of false reports to contact our office. We are firmly committed to holding perpetrators accountable for this conduct, ”prosecutor Cyrus Vance added in a statement.
Cooper was walking his dog in Central Park last month when he met Christian Cooper - with whom he has no relationship - in a wooded area known as Ramble. A dispute broke out because the woman's dog did not have a leash, which is against Ramble's rules, the two told CNN.
Christian Cooper posted a recorded portion of the exchange on Facebook, and the images went viral. In the video, he remains silent for the most part, as she frantically tells the police that he is threatening her and her dog.

"I'm going to take a picture and call the police," Amy Cooper is heard saying in the video. "I will tell you that there is an African-American man threatening my life," he adds.
A subpoena has been issued against Amy Cooper and the arraignment is scheduled for October 14.
CNN's Melanie Schuman reported from New York and Theresa Waldrop wrote from Atlanta. Amir Vera and Laura Ly, also from CNN, contributed to this report.
