Brazil exceeds 1.6 million cases of coronavirus and registers nearly 65,000 deaths

The Brazilian Ministry of Health registered 26,051 new cases of coronavirus on Sunday, bringing the country's total to 1,603,055 confirmed cases.

Brazil also reported 602 new deaths from the virus, bringing the number to 64,867.

The new figures emerge as Brazil's largest city, Sao Paulo, prepares to reopen bars, restaurants, beauty salons, and hairdressers on Monday, and when Rio de Janeiro opened its bars and restaurants over the weekend.

Street stores and shopping malls in Sao Paulo will also be open for six hours starting Monday, after operating four hours a day since they reopened on June 11.

Four senior Bolivian officials, including the Minister of Health, tested positive for covid-19

On Sunday, a statement from the Ministry of Health announced that the Minister of Health, MarĂ­a Eidy Roca, had tested positive and was in stable condition.

Also on Sunday, officials announced that the Minister of the Presidency, Yerko Núñez Negrette, had been hospitalized and was receiving treatment for coronavirus.

On Saturday, it was also confirmed that the Minister of Mines, Jorge Fernando Oropeza, tested positive.

On June 27, the previous Saturday, the Bolivian Information Agency confirmed that General Sergio Orellana, commander of the Armed Forces, had tested positive and was hospitalized.

As of Sunday night, Bolivia has 38,071 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus and 1,378 deaths related to the virus, according to the Johns Hopkins University count.

More than 30,000 people have died from coronavirus in Mexico

The Mexican Ministry of Health reported 4,683 new cases of coronavirus on Sunday, bringing the national total to 256,848 confirmed cases.

It also reported 273 new virus-related deaths, bringing the number of coronavirus deaths to 30,639.

Mexico now has the fifth highest number of deaths from coronavirus worldwide.

Saturday was the largest daily jump in Mexico in new cases so far.

This occurs just after parts of the country began reopening last week.
