At 45, this elected member of Amiens (Somme), hometown of the President of the Republic, replaces the former prefect Élisabeth Borne. After Nicolas Hulot, then François de Rugy, with whom she is close, Barbara Pompili is therefore the fourth Minister of Ecology for the Macron quinquennium.

The former co-president of the environmental group in the Assembly during the previous legislature already knows the Hôtel de Roquelaure. At the end of Hollande's presidency, this energy specialist occupied the post of Secretary of State for Biodiversity. MP since 2012, this political leader has distanced herself from environmentalists to join Emmanuel Macron, in 2017. Since then, the minister has expressed herself several times to request a rebalancing of the political line of the government, which she judges too much to right. The day after the confinement, at the end of May, she even co-founded the association "En Commun", a social-ecological current within the group La République en Marche. During the municipal elections, Barbara Pompili launched herself into dissent: she supported a list ex-EELV, while LREM lined up behind the mayor UDI, Brigitte Fouré. Last year, the parliamentarian abstained from voting on the ratification of the controversial CETA trade agreement. This independence did not ultimately harm him during the reshuffle.
