"I'm sure I don't want to be involved in politics," said the famous lawyer, who was appointed Keeper of the Seals on Monday, in an interview with Marianne in 2018. At the time, he already expressed his admiration for Emmanuel Macron.

In April 2018, there didn't seem to be any doubt. The famous and very media lawyer Éric Dupond-Moretti, appointed Monday July 6 Minister of Justice, assured that he would not get into politics. At the time, he even brushed aside the question of Marianne's journalists who asked him if he would agree to be Keeper of the Seals. "No ! (laughs) What do you want me to do over there? ” answered Éric Dupond-Moretti. Before continuing, affirmative: "I am sure I do not want to be involved in politics. Some proposals have already been made to me ”.

"If people can get together, I think it's not bad"

If he has since changed his mind, agreeing to replace Nicole Belloubet, the lawyer already supported the head of state at the time. "I like this Macron. He's young. He's coming out of nowhere. It shattered old concepts and cleavages that deserved to be. He chose a political opponent as prime minister, it looks great: if people can get together, I think it's not bad, " said the man of the left, but never stuck in a political party. “It has given the presidency a certain luster. And I find that Brigitte Macron is a brilliant girl. After, I stop, I don't want to be called a Macron hagiographer! ” , he even mentioned.

His appointment did not delight everyone in the justice system. Éric Dupond-Moretti is notably known for his violent invectives against magistrates. The USM, the main judiciary union, thus experienced his appointment as "a declaration of war" . Éric Dupond-Moretti seems to hate magistrates whom he does not hesitate to insult regularly, he wants the abolition of the National School of Magistrates (ENM), the split of the body (seat / prosecution), that is all 'opposite of what the USM is wearing ', mocked Céline Parisot, president of the Union syndicale des magistrats.

On the political side, Marine Le Pen deplored on Twitter the appointment of an "extreme left activist who wants the ban on the RN, the first opposition party" . "It promises ..." , mocked the president of the National Rally. In 2015, Eric Dupond-Moretti had indeed proposed to "ban" the RN, saying that "it is a party that is not republican" .
