A tragic bus accident occurred in southwest China on Tuesday. Among the passengers in the vehicle were high school students heading to the Chinese Baccalaureate exam center, which started Tuesday morning, public television CCTV said.
The chain published on the Internet images of video surveillance showing the vehicle deviating from its path and crossing the opposite direction of traffic before breaking down a safety barrier and diving into a lake located below a small slope.
The tragedy took place around 12 p.m. (04:00 GMT) in the city of Anshun, in the poor province of Guizhu (southwest), said the provincial office in charge of emergency situations.

Guizhou firefighters published a video on the social network Weibo showing divers looking for possible victims. In total, 19 fire trucks, 21 inflatable boats and 97 rescuers were mobilized, according to the Chinese Ministry of Emergency Situations.
Chinese authorities have yet to confirm whether high school students are actually on the bus. The reasons for the disaster were not immediately clear.
