A man in his 60s from Ashdod is suspected of impersonating a rabbi and cheating women from all over the country, with a view to coaxing them out of his country.
Police received complaints from six women from the center of the country, who said a man impersonated a rabbi and contacted single women. In the conversation, the man told them that he had a pairing for them, and after he had given him the details of the man for broadcast, he ended the phone call. Some time later, the complainants received a call from the designated man, who in fact was the same suspect who had previously impersonated a rabbi.
Following a covert investigation, investigators arrested the man yesterday on suspicion of impersonation. Police said that so far, six women who had been deceived by the suspect have been identified and the investigation is ongoing. Investigators at the South Central Fraud Unit are seeking to extend his detention.
