The Renault F1 team confirmed on Wednesday the recruitment of Fernando Alonso from the 2021 season on for a long-term contract, of at least two years. The double Spanish world champion, who left the discipline in 2018, will team up with French Esteban Occon to replace Daniel Ricciardo recruited by McLaren. For the Spaniard at 314 grand prix, 32 victories and 97 podiums who will celebrate his 39th birthday next July, this will be a third visit to Enstone. The first had been crowned with success with two world crowns won in 2005 and 2006. His return during the 2008 season, marked by the cheating of the Singapore Grand Prix, then 2009 at the wheel of an inefficient single-seater, had been much less well run.
