Texas, plagued by an outbreak of coronavirus infections on its territory, became the third American state on Tuesday to surpass 10,000 new cases in 24 hours. The large southern state of the United States registered 10,028 positive tests on Tuesday, a daily threshold that only New York and Florida reported before it.
Texas was one of the first American states to revive its economy in May, when restaurants, malls and stores were able to reopen at reduced capacity. Bars, hairdressers and beauty salons followed suit in the following weeks.

A reopening process deemed premature by some and put on "pause" on June 25 by Republican Governor Greg Abbott, who closed the bars the next day. Last week, the official also ordered the mask to be worn in public places.
The number of Covid-19 hospitalizations more than doubled in two weeks, from 4,092 to 9,286. In total, Texas has recorded 210,585 cases since the start of the pandemic, and 2,715 deaths.
