The firefighters had to deploy great resources to secure the residents of a building on fire in the Almont district of Melun, during the night of Tuesday to Wednesday. One seriously injured person was hospitalized in Melun. Three others, intoxicated, were more slightly affected.
The alert was given at 1:30 a.m. at 16, avenue d'Estienne d'Orves. Flames escape from an apartment on the 3rd floor of a building with nine. When help arrived, fumes invaded the stairwell and went upstairs, which made evacuation of residents difficult.
18 people evacuated with the fire engine basket
The firefighters then evacuated 18 people with the basket, six others with ropes and harnesses and four others with more traditional scales. "These are safety features, not rescues. There was no imminent danger to the victims, ”said an officer.
Firefighters will take almost two hours to put out the fire. Three apartments were very badly affected and a dozen relocations are expected. Part of the victims, with no other solution to end the night, were also welcomed in a gymnasium in the neighborhood for the rest of the night.
An investigation, carried out by the group attacking persons responsible for urban safety in Melun, was immediately opened to determine the origin of the disaster, which is still undetermined.
It is also this same group that is conducting the investigations into the arson that destroyed the Schuman social center, in the district of the same name, three nights earlier.
