Neither remorse nor regret. Invited Wednesday morning on RMC / BFMTV, Jean Castex indicated that he "fully assumes" the appointment of Gérald Darmanin as Minister of the Interior. The latter is still under investigation for "rape" for facts dating from 2009 , his promotion from Bercy to Beauvau was experienced as an affront by feminist associations. Several demonstrations took place on Tuesday at the Ministry of the Interior and then at the Élysée Palace, when he took up his new post.
"Presumption of innocence"
In this context, Jean Castex wanted to be reassuring. He certified that Gérald Darmanin would not have been appointed if he had "had the slightest doubt, the slightest interrogation" on the guilt of the Minister of the Interior. "There have already been, on these same facts, investigative acts which were clearly acts of rejection" , noted the tenant of Matignon, while the investigation had been, initially, classified without follow-up . "On the other hand, because Mr. Darmanin completely benefits from the presumption of innocence," he also wanted to recall. Jean Castex finally hammered: " For political and also personal reasons, all (the questions) which touch on violence - as we say 'intra-marital' - and the questions of rape, are particularly dear to me", he assured .

The Prime Minister also justified the choice of Eric Dupond-Moretti to Justice. The appointment of the highly publicized lawyer aroused the anger of some of the magistrates. The USM, the main magistrates' union, even experienced his appointment as "a declaration of war" , recalling the violent invective of "Acquittator" against the profession. The Prime Minister explained that Eric Dupond-Moretti was not there to play the "beefy" face "unions" but to "wear the colors of Justice within the state apparatus". And “give it back” .
