Feminist rallies took place Friday in several cities in France against the government reshuffle after the appointments of Gérald Darmanin, accused of rape, at the Ministry of the Interior, and Éric Dupond-Moretti, very critical of the #MeToo movement, to Justice.

In Paris, thousands of people gathered in front of the Hôtel de Ville from 6 p.m., at the call of the feminist committee of female students from the University of Paris-I, supported by the #Noustoutes collective. “Three years after #MeToo, the French State has once again shown that the well-being and safety of women is not a priority. (...) What message does the French government send to women hesitant to file a rape complaint? ” , the organizers announced on Facebook.
Rallies also took place in Lille, on the Grand-Place, to demand the " resignation " of the two ministers. Other rallies were organized in front of the courthouses in Marseille and Grenoble, place de l'Hotel de Ville in Rennes, in front of the prefecture in Angers, as well as in Nantes and Caen.

The new interior minister said Thursday " have the right to the presumption of innocence ", stressing " that there have been three court decisions, two preliminary investigations were closed without result and a dismissal rendered by two investigating judges ". Gérald Darmanin was accused in 2017 of rape by a woman, Sophie Patterson-Spatz, who requested it in 2009, when he was project manager in the legal affairs department of the UMP (party which became LR), in an attempt to to quash a 2004 conviction for blackmail and malicious calls against an ex-boyfriend.
