A 27-year-old man was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Friday for the murder of six members of his family, including his own parents, whom he killed in a shootout, and will have to be committed to a mental hospital.

Presented as Adrian S., the young man was found guilty of murders and attempted murders after having killed with a semi-automatic 9 mm revolver his father, his mother, his half-brother, his half sister, uncle and aunt, according to the verdict of the Ellwangen regional court in southwest Germany. Some of his victims were shot in the head, and two other family members were seriously injured.
