(CNN Spanish) - The President of Ecuador, Lenín Moreno, named Luis Gallegos as his new Foreign Minister on Thursday after the resignation of José Valencia. The Ecuadorian government reported in a statement that Gallegos was serving as Ecuador's permanent representative to the United Nations in New York.
In addition, Luis Gallegos is President of the United Nations Global Alliance of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for Development.
President Moreno's announcement comes a day after José Valencia announced his departure as chancellor of Ecuador.
Lenín Moreno's government also announced other changes in the Ministries of Labor, Urban Development and Housing and in the General Secretariat for Communication. The Ministry of Labor will be directed by Andrés Isch and the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing, by Julio Recalde. The General Secretariat for Communication of the Presidency of the Republic will be headed by Caridad Vela, who is a journalist by profession.
